Sociology of Education Abstract
Although sociologh of education is relatively a recent science, its origin can be traced back to history and ethnology. Greek and Roman historians, biographers and ethnologists already manifested considerable interest in education.. Many historical and ethnological works about particular societies include data concerning education. Ethnologists investing tribal and folk cultures, usually included education in their monographic studies, and recently a few surveys of education in various societies on the prelitetate level have been published.
Sociology of education emerged out as a specialized branch of general sociology since 1963. This new science is concerned with the study of relation between educational institution and society as a whole in one side, and studying the traits and specific characteristics of educational institution on the other side.
Although sociology of education became one the most significant subject in the European and American universities since the sixties of this century; the Arab library is still in need of such studies and text books determining the nature and theoretical basis of this new branch. So, this book came as an endeavor to enrich the Arab library with relevant studies.
