Volatile oils of Hasaway (Mentha longitolia), Mughraby (M. piperita) and Doash (Origanum syriacum) have been studied. Hasawy was found to contain the highest amount of total volatile oils, whereas Doash exhibited the lowest amount. Identification of these oils by TLC and GLC revealed citral as the major component in the volatile oils of both Hasawy and Mughraby. On the other hand, linalool was found to be the major constituent of Doash volatile oils. In addition, mineral composition in the leaves of these plants has been investigated. Nitrogen content was determined by microkjeldal's method, whereas Na, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn, Fe & P were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Hasawy was found to contain the highest amount of Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn & Fe, while Mughraby has the highest content of Na, Cu & P. Doash on the other hand exhibited the highest amount of K and N.
